THE WOODLANDS

At a Glance

WELCOME TO THE WOODLANDS

In the sixties, famed Houston oilman George Mitchell bought the first 2,800 acres of what would become the Woodlands, his master-planned marvel thirty miles north of Houston. Now stretching over 28,000 acres, this piney suburban paradise is still growing.

THE WOODLANDS:

A lush, self-contained suburban refuge.

Though farther flung from Houston’s dynamic core, the Woodlands is, for many, a welcome escape from all the concrete and highway gridlock that comes with urban living. Its idyllic wooded setting and abundance of upscale amenities continue to draw new residents.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

A walkable town center and high-end diversions.

In the Woodlands, most of the action is centered around Town Center, a multi-venue hub of shopping, dining, and entertainment that includes Market Street and the Woodlands Mall. Because it’s not just weary urbanites who are relocating to the Woodlands--many of Houston’s best-known restaurants and shops have opened satellite locations here too.

THE LIFESTYLE:

Embracing sunny days, scenery, and the synergy of community.

What used to be middle-of-nowhere countryside has become a seductive bubble of easy living, and Woodlands residents take full advantage of being surrounded by nature and hospitable neighbors, especially at community events like the weekly farmers’ market at Grogan’s Mill.

UNEXPECTED APPEAL:

A range of amusements means there’s never a dull moment.

Residents of the Woodlands can take their pick from a well-rounded menu of pastimes. How does stand-up paddleboarding sound? Head to the Riva Row Boathouse on the lake. Like to hike or bike? There are 140 miles of trails to traverse. Want to catch Kendrick Lamar or Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Houston Symphony? Just check the schedule at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

THE MARKET:

Custom homes in all shapes and sizes.

Builders have happily made do with the Woodlands’ generous lot sizes, creating homes in a range of styles--everything from Southern coastal to Mediterranean to classic ranch house. Though most offerings are Texas-sized, one-stories with more modest footprints are in the mix too.

YOU'LL FALL IN LOVE WITH:

The many amenities of Lake Woodlands.

Even if you’re not a rower or a kayaker or a sailor, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy Lake Woodlands. The 200-acre waterway is ringed with parks, like Northshore Park, known for its prime picnic spots and al fresco concerts, and Southshore Park, popular with fishing enthusiasts and kids, who come to see the dragon sculpture rising out of the water.
